Foot Snatcher strikes again! Victoria Beckham is latest victim!

Victoria_beckham

OK, this is getting serious. Today we add Victoria Beckham's name to the list of celebrities who've fallen victim to that vile criminal known to The Fashion Police as The Foot Snatcher. That list in full:

Kristin Cavallari and Erin O'Connor
Janet Jackson
Kim Kardashian
Katie Holmes

The Fashion Police would like to assure concerned readers that we have our very best officers working round the clock on this - in fact, they're out on the streets right now in their gun-shaped shoes, so don't worry kids, the situation is in hand, and we're hoping to reunite Mrs Beckham with her lost feet very soon. In the meantime, don't have nightmares - and keep an eye on your feet...

Black Halo turn their Jackie O dress into a romper suit

Black_halo_jackie_o

Remember Black Halo's Jackie O dress? It was our Dress of the Day on March 25th, and even now The Fashion Police still think fondly of its gorgeous, slim fitting style and Mouret-esque tailoring.  So when we heard that the label had turned the dress into a romper suit, we just didn't know what to think. Of course, in very general terms, the words "romper suit" are almost guaranteed to terrify us, making is think instantly of the horrifying 'Dress Like a Toddler Trend' and the tendency of some grown women to dress like three year olds.

This romper suit, however, definitely doesn't look like something you'd catch a toddler wearing, and while it hasn't really failed to win us over, we're thinking that may have more to do with the mystifying metallic sheen of the material, than the actual suit itself. In black or navy, we may even admit to quite liking it.

What do you think? Do you love this romper style?

Style on Trial: Chanel's 'Gun Shoes' - Cruise 2009

Chanel_gun_shoes

Karl Lagerfeld, get your gun! Oh no, wait: you already did, didn't you? These shoes were part of Chanel's 2009 Cruise Collection, and were actually designed by Laurence Decade, who was apparently handed an image of a gun by Lagerfeld, with the instruction to turn it into footwear. And he did. The scary bit is that these aren't just pieces of catwalk art - they will actually be available to buy with the rest of the collection. Our question is, will you buy them, or do you think The Fashion Police should step in and do some handgun control on these babies?

(Personally, all we can say is that we're looking into having The Fashion Police's actual handguns made to look like shoes. Any hints, Uncle Karl?)

Fashion Police Poll: Celine Dion has 3,000 pairs of shoes - how many pairs do you have?

Jimmy_choo_shoes Last week, Celine Dion revealled that she's the proud owner of something in the region of 3,000 pairs of shoes. This shock revelation was greeted by horror and derision by some, who seemed to equate ownership of a large number of shoes as one sign of the approaching apocalypse, and with a gentle shrug of the shoulders from others, who figured that hey, it's her money, and if she wants to spend it on shoes, so be it.

The Fashion Police are firmly in the latter camp (Assuming that the shoes are nice ones, obviously, and not Frankenshoes) but as the issue of shoes, and the number of pairs that women own, seems to have attracted the attention of the media this week, we think it's time for our readers to 'fess up, too. So tell us: how many pairs of shoes do you own? (You'll find the poll after the jump)

Ugly Prom Dress of the Day: The 'Laced Angel'

Ugly_prom_dress

We didn't even have to invent a title for today's Ugly Prom Dress, because this dress is actually called "Laced Angel". But what is the Laced Angel actually doing in this picture, that's what we'd like to know? Laying an egg? Dancing the funky chicken? WHAT?

Answers in the comments box below, folks...

Dress of the Day: yellow stripe prom dress from Miss Selfridge - reader submission

Prom_dress

Today's Dress of the Day was submitted by Tamara, who says she thinks this yellow dress from Miss Selfridge would be perfect for a summer's day. It's also dressy enough for evening wear or wedding-guest attire, and although it doesn't suit all complexions, we're loving the sunshiney mix of yellows. Another good job from Miss Selfridge, which can be yours for £50.

Style on Trial: thong sandals with a difference

Thongsandals No shoes? No problem! Just warp an old sack around your foot, tie at the ankle, and you're good to go!

Well, that's what these Riley sandals from Bakers look like to us, anyway - kind of "cavewoman chic", only without the "chic" bit.

They may not seem that way to you, though, of course, and given that it is Friday afternoon, the sun is out and the wine is chilling in the fridge, we've decided to be generous and put these up On Trial, rather than just consigning them instantly to the Fashion Police jail.

Their fate is in your hands, readers: are they a fashion crime or are they damn fine?

Hug Me! I'm a fashion criminal!

Fashion_crime
"And for my next trick, I'll be squeezing out a small person from under my right arm!"

She's not sure whether she wants a hug, or whether she just wants to hide underneath the neck of her sweater. Given that it's making her look weirdly deformed, and she's also committing the classic "adults dressing like toddlers" fashion crime, we'd suggest the latter course of action. We'd also suggest replacing the words "hug me" with "arrest me", because that's exactly what's going to happen to anyone over the age of ten we catch dressing like this...

(Thanks to Amanda for the report!)

Handbag of the Week: Coach Ergo Patent Leather Pleated Framed Satchel

Coach_handbag

We know that Coach has a huge following in certain quarters, but we have to admit that The Fashion Police have never really been part of that following. This bag, though, we think we could probably find room for in the ol' accessories closet. It's Coach's Ergo Patent Leather Pleated Frame Satchel (oh come on, Coach, surely you could've fitted another word in there if you'd really tried?), and if you put aside the Paris-Hilton-pink, we think you're left with a rather nice little bag. Of course, we're fans of the frame, so to speak, and we're actually finding ourselves drawn to the colour, too, which is very "Elle Wood". Carry with a heavy dash of irony, but only if you're willing to pay $498 for it.

The Adult Onesie, by Topshop Boutique

Fashion_disaster

Note to Topshop: if we could use the word "onesie" (or "babbygro" to give it its UK term) to describe it, it should never be worn by adults and is, by definition, a Crime of Fashion.

Also: if it would make us look like a cartoon jailbird? Also a crime of fashion.

Similarly, if it has a really, really saggy butt, even when it's not being worn by anyone? Yeah, you got it: crime of fashion.

In conclusion, then, your stripe all in one? That you're charging £50 for? Oh, don't make us say it again, Topshop...

Love,
The Fashion Police

Dress of the Day: Gingham print bubble dress from New Look

Gingham_dress We know some of you aren't too keen on the ol' bubble hems, and to be completely honest with you, they're not our favourite style in the world either. But if we were in the market for a bubble-hemmed dress, we think we'd probably just throw caution to the wind and buy this gingham print dress from New Look. It has a kind of "country" feel about it that makes us think of summer meadows and picnics on hot days, and who doesn't like summer meadows and picnics, we ask you?

This is only £16 at New Look, so if you do love the bubbles, take a look at it here.

Wonderful One-Pieces: some swimswear we love

One_pice_swimsuits

We've shown you a few horrors from the swimwear department recently, so we thought it was only fair to set the balance straight with some swimsuits that won't make you want to stay in the water for fear of being seen in them. It's only within the last few years that one-pieces started to steal some popularity away from the bikini, so we thought we'd start off with some suits that follow the "more is less" approach. We're loving the retro feel of the two suits on the left of this picture, while the Camilla and Marc one piece on the right will be too loud for some tastes, but hey, at least it's not boring. Product details below...

L- R: Zimmermann Avalon swimsuit; Heart Cinched Bandeau One-Piece, dELiA*s; Camilla & Marc one piece

Fashion Police at Cannes: Cate Blanchett, Eva Longoria, Bar Rafaeli, Mischa Barton

Cate_blanchett_2
Cate Blanchett

Even although it's a pretty good match for her skin tone, and therefore looks a little bit like it's growing on her, we love this beautiful, beruffled dress on Cate Blanchett. And if we had any doubt at all that ruffles were the big evening-wear look of the season, well, we don't any more.
